Is it a 300 prequel, sequel, or set concurrently with the events of 300? Yes. In the end, this was an okay movie that could have become an amazing movie. This should have been 300: Artemisia, or 300: Persian vengeance or some damn thing. She captivated the audience every moment she was on screen, and she had the best lines of any of the actors. The cast is weaker than in the original, except for the fantastic Eva Green. This needed to be HER story, set against the greater backdrop of the Persian war. Hook, a wet-behind-the-ears soldier, is dropped off on the streets of Belfast and thrust into a conflict as chaotic and deadly as anything in Saving Private Ryan. Besides the really powerful visual aspect and excellent choreography of action scenes, this film has not much to offer. In ’71 we witness what’s going on in Ireland through the eyes of Gary Hook (Jack O’Connell from Skins and 300: Rise of an Empire in a tough, bare-bones performance). A visually striking epic CGI spectacle in comic-book style, whose story is both the prologue and the epilogue to the first film. Everything I said about the first film also applies to this one.
